Hey everyone!
My jet lag is pretty awful. I got a grand total of 3 hours of sleep and about 4 of really spotty semi-conscious sleep. Maybe it's because I slept on the floor. I need to get a futon soon... =/
The location of the English teacher's room at my base school is right near the baseball field, so in the morning, I hear chants from the baseball team, who are hard at work practicing. Also within earshot, I could hear the choir club and the brass band club! It's amazing to see how many students are here at school over the summer. Some are taking extra classes and many others have mandatory club activities! American kids sure do have it easy during the breaks....
Anyways, around 10am, I got calls from Oshima-sensei, my caretaker at my visit school (Komako High School) and Emma, my Regional Block Leader. Emma was calling to check up on me and make sure I was doing ok in my first day in Komagane and Oshima-sensei told me that the Komako High School Principal and teachers wanted to meet me next Tuesday in the afternoon. From what I hear, Komako is a mainly boys school, so it seems daunting as a female teacher! Steven, told me that, although they can be a bit rowdy, they're a good bunch of kids. I'm not sure how to take this information, but I hope that they'll be nice to me!
Today was also the day that I first met Steven! He and a couple of my new students (Yuka and Suzuka) showed me my new classroom. There was a chalkboard that said "WELCOME!" and was full of drawings from the students. I almost cried...it was so sweet of them to do that! The kids I met were also sweethearts. I hope I can teach them well! (Sidenote: They are only 3 years younger than I am. O.O)
After the mini-tour, Steven took me to lunch at an Italian restaurant, where we ate, chatted about his freelance work (moe exercise apps lol...sounds funny, but it is actually pretty cool! It's going to be released in the US soon!), my goals after JET, manga we liked, and about life in Komagane. He's hanging around for a while even when I start teaching (not really sure why).
Anyways, it's getting late and I've gotta wake up early again. Until next time~!
